Ultimate Guacamole
Heavy-duty chips deserve a heavy-duty dip. This is the ultimate, thick-and-chunky guacamole your indestructible tortilla chips have been waiting for. It’s rich, tangy, and ready for a massive scoop!
Prep time: 10 minutes | Servings: 4-6
Ingredients
- 4 large Haas avocados, ripe but still slightly firm (for a great, chunky texture)
- 1/3 cup red onion, finely diced
- 1 to 2 jalapeños, finely minced (leave some seeds if you want a kick)
- 1/3 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, grated or finely minced
- 1.5 limes, juiced (about 3 tablespoons)
- 1/2 teaspoon coarse sea salt (plus more to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
Instructions
- The Flavor Base: In your serving bowl, mix together the diced red onion, minced jalapeño, garlic, lime juice, and salt. Let it sit for about 5 minutes. This quick-pickles the onions and garlic, mellowing their raw bite and creating a flavorful base.
- The Chunky Mash: Scoop the avocado flesh into the bowl. Grab a sturdy fork or potato masher and mash it gently. Leave plenty of large, bite-sized chunks—your unbreakable chips can easily handle the weight!
- The Fold: Add the chopped cilantro and ground cumin. Use a spoon or spatula to gently fold everything together until just combined.
- The Chip Test: Scoop a massive dollop onto one of your built-to-last chips. Taste and adjust with a pinch more salt or a squeeze of lime if needed.
Pro Tip for Storage: If you have leftovers, flatten the top of the guacamole with a spoon, pour a thin layer of lukewarm water (or extra lime juice) over the top, and cover with plastic wrap pressing directly against the surface. Pour the water off before eating again—it keeps it bright green for days!
