Organic Tortilla Chips FAQs

Are your chips baked or fried?

Our chips are baked and then fried to achieve the optimal crunch. Our tortilla chips are fried in Organic avocado oil. Avocado oil has a high smokepoint, which makes it a great oil to fry in.

What type of corn is used in your chips?

Our tortilla chips are made with two types of Organic yellow corn: Flint and Dent. Dent corn is commonly used in tortilla chips — but it’s our heirloom flint corn that gives Zack’s Mighty tortilla chips their very corny flavor. Our dent and flint corn is grown by our partner farm in Iowa. Our corn is also Certified Regenerative by AGW. Check out more about our organic regenerative corn here. What does nixtamalization mean?

Nixtamalization is the ancient process of cooking and soaking corn with cooking lime, a mineral, to help soften the kernels and remove the hull. This makes the corn more digestible and flavorful. We nixtamalize our corn before grinding it into masa, baking the tortillas, cutting into chips, and frying.
